Rainbow Fish

So, I write elsewhere so why not add a few entries here as well. This is a poem I wrote sometime between september or october of last year. Please share any thoughts or opinions about if you feel compelled to. I suggest reading a little slower than normal, pausing slightly between each stanza. Otherwise I doubt it will be effective.

Have you ever felt speechless?
in a moment where every ounce of you wishes not too
as if something supernatural...mystical even
appears before your eyes

all the words you know you know
simply go away
the eloquence fails and in that moment
all is still in your world

yet around you,
the traffic keeps going
cell phones keep beeping
and someone is left staring

In your mind however,
nothing is more important
such silence indicates contemplation
of what, it does not matter

yet all the passerbys, and acquaintances
simply see a person disconnected
cut off from the network of hearts,
dim amidst a world of radiance and flare

And then it hits,
a wave of insecurity
The smiles become forced
and the eyes begin to flicker

Suddenly, something has changed
and you are now distant

Tis sad is it not?
the irony of everyday living:
That one with such good intention,
one so genuine

is to be cast aside
a prize fish wasted
exchanged for mediocrity
and arbitrary consistency

End

The last two line were originally.......
"in exchange for something monotonous
something that is just a part of the school"

Goodnight. Thanks for reading.
