Has anyone ever experienced sleep paralysis?

I wanted to ask that question on here since dredg's el cielo is based off of a painting about it. I've experienced it a few times and every time it has frightened me to the point where I thought I was having a heart attack.

What happens with me most of the time is I go to fall asleep and am on the verge of slipping out of consciousness. I then open my eyes and am staring at the wall or ceiling and thinking everything's normal. I then hear activity in my room (footsteps, chairs sqeaking), as if I'm not alone. So I go to look but can't because the chemical in my brain that keeps me from moving in my sleep is still activated, so I'm paralyzed. It's at this point I begin to understand (of course, in my dream like state) that this presence in my room wants me to die.

For example last night I opened my eyes, facing my wall and heard someone coming down my stairs. I couldn't move and wanted to scream because my girlfriend was sleeping next to me and I wanted to warn her something was coming to kill us. Of course, I couldn't do either of these things no matter how hard I concentrated. This dark presence or person or whatever it is then hovered over my ear and whispered "You are not able to be fixed." After it told me this I slowly regained the ability to move my limbs and sat up to contemplate what just happened.

So, yeah that's what I experience when sleep paralysis hits me. Anyone care to share any of your experiences?

My bf gets it...when he is sleeping sometimes he gets stuck. He can hear things sometimes see things but is paralyzed so he makes this sad wimping noise until I can push him awake. If no one is around to move him then he has to wait it out. Sometimes he has experienced surreal noises (footsteps when no one is home) but usually it's just uncomfortable and can't move.

yes I have. It was very scary at first, i was trying to scream to my mom and dad that I was dying and I felt my "spirit" Fly upstairs and then back to my body as if I were floating. I felt like I wasn't breathing and that I was slipping away. then My body caught up with my brain and I fully awoke. Very trippy. Then the same thing happened the next day.

Yes . . . especially when I am very stressed. There have been at least three times in the last month where I experienced this . . . I hear things sometimes but always wish my wife would know this was happening and just shake me to wake my body.

InfernoNR, you hit it . . . for me it happens when I am in that weird sleep/semi-awake state. Although I just want to be moved; I haven't heard anything super freaky, like someone coming in my house or people standing over me. I usually hear weird Wha-wha sounds. But usually in the moment I want to be moved so bad I wish I could talk but I can't.

The feeling stays with me for awhile. It is not a fun feeling.
