It's been four years strong, that's much too long.
After years of waiting I finally got to pick up my copy of the Pariah, the Parrot, the Delusion today. I was excited to say the least and it felt fantastic to finally have the physical copy in my hands (I've heard it more than a few times already =))
The artwork, for what's in the package, I found to be beautiful and I love the references to evolution. The cover art is one of the best, if not the best I've seen for an album. There is just so much detail.
As for the music, so far it's very close to El Cielo in my order of favorite dredg albums. I love the cohesiveness, the layers and depth of instrumentation, the evolved vocals, the use of strings, the more prominent use of piano, the homage paid to The Ornament in Information and Cartoon Showroom, the homage paid to The Canyon Behind Her in Quotes (the first time I heard this I almost lost my mind), and of course the concept behind the album (my favorite concept since El Cielo).
What I don't enjoy about the album isn't much, just some minor gripes: The three songs in succession are my least favorites on the album (yet still some of their best ) which are Savior, RUOK and I Don't Know. The first and last are a tad to poppy for me and RUOK just doesn't have enough atmosphere to warrant it as a dredg instrumental to me for some reason, it's just lacking something... But still a very relaxing interlude nonetheless. Also some of the lyrics I felt could have been said better, but that's just a personal issue I have with them ("gangster attitudes", saying "the only thing I need and you've become the only thing" seems to have too many "things" close together, maybe clarify? and some words don't seem to have too many syllables for the beat or something, for example the part in I Don't Know when he says "ignorance". Lastly, though it's a beautiful and perfect closer for the album, I just can't get past the epic quality of The Canyon Behind Her.
As I said, all minor gripes and this album is still my second favorite album out of all music, just behind El Cielo at the moment.
Now celebrate on this ninth of June of two thousand and nine ladies and gents, for dredg has finally *officially* released The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion! Happy listening!

It is interesting, but dredg is the only one from my favourite bands that actually hit me instantly with every album so far. With my first - Catch Without Arms I thought it was the general "obsession" from the band. With "Pariah..." I realised it is the album itself - I got into it right from the first listen!

Ah, of course. Dredg albums always require multiple listens to fully appreciate the work put into it. Sometimes I think I'll never stop hearing something new in el cielo =)

I'm really digging the album so far.
A lot of it reminds more of Leitmotif than any other album, though it is something entirely new.
I must listen to it more.
