Fan Submissions
Suggestion for a subsection of the 'Media' page--I'm sure I can't be the only person who's taken a few shots of just about every Dredg show I caught this decade. It might be fun to include a section of the site for users to upload their own concert photos.
Hrm, if not the media section, it could also possibly be tied to the profile pages and blogs, maybe run on something like Coppermine Gallery if you've heard of that script.
Edit: Now that I've got the flickr thing working, that seems to help, but unfortunately, there's no way to target specific sets, is there? Gah.

Atlacoya,
I think that is a great idea. Many average people film and photo-shoot at Dredg shows (Insurance workers, fast-food workers, constructions workers, etc.)...what better place to place and share those pictures than at Dredg.com. I think that would be a big hit.
Buttttt, may I ask you for the sake of argument..
Would your Dredg-show experience be different for you without your camera? Is it more intimate for you to have photos as a physical memorable record of the night?
To spend the night behind a lens...do you think it takes away anything from you while you're at the show? Or anyone for that matter, shooting and snapping the entire show. .. -

I've filmed a few dredg shows and it certainly took away from the experience...except for one of the shows where Dino decided to screw with me because of the camera. That was very memorable. -

I don't know, to be honest, because I never photograph during the whole show unless I was getting paid for it. ;)
My usual strategy with photographing concerts is to take as many shots as I can during a few songs--maybe one or two near the beginning of the set, one or two in the middle, and then a few parting shots at the end. You don't usually miss anything too noteworthy and you end up with a nice record of your concert experiences without having to, like you said, sit behind a lens all night. A lot of venues/acts where I've gotten permits only allow photography during certain songs or certain portions of a show in the first place. -

One of the things that causes concern with user-uploaded content is the higher potential for copyright violations. We're doing our best to have this be a nice mellow community that isn't getting hassled by the man.
If those videos and/or images are hosted on 3rd party sites (such as Flickr or Youtube), they can exist without dredg.com being dragged into some form of music business politics.
My biggest concern is a internet phenomenon I have seen relived a million times on other photo-sharing sites. Give users an upload form, and the users give you pictures of their penises. I fully believe a good 90% or so of you are fully responsible and logical human beings, but there are always a number of people out there trying to ruin a good thing. Us hosting that content would require quite a bit of moderation and/or censorship and all sorts of other gross adult words.
I'm trying to think of a good solid middle ground though, no worries.
and no penis pictures. -

aww man and i was about to go penis posting crazy!!! well how about boobs!! they make everyone happy! hahaha j/k but i will have to say that i agree with Atlacoya about only take photos during certain songs. I prefer to songs where gavin is at his most vulnerable position of slide guitar. Man does he have a intense look on his face when he plays that thing. I find that filming video during more popular songs is where you get the most energy from a band. I will always have my camera with me, but i only shoot video of songs that I haven't shot already. For example!!! Dredg is now playing cartoon showroom so i will be filming that one and since Duncan from ATAL might be joining them for R.U.O.K I will most likely be filming that too. Also any songs that they haven't played in a while I will also film. I have posted most of my videos on youtube, but many are there on my hard drive just so that I can go back and enjoy that moment again a few weeks or months down the road.
