    my favorite new lyrics!!

But thankfully, thankfully I haven’t been taken very seriously
Seriously anxious to run the course without stumbling
Stumbling over fences now I’m falling
    Falling down the hillside
    It’s way too steep
    It’s way too steep

Wait for me, well I am not very far behind so
Wait for me, I’m still chasing you
Wait for me, well I am not very far behind so
Wait for me, I’m still chasing you

Agree with the Canyon Behind Her lyric. One of my favorite Dredg songs. Really, there are too many great lines . . . for me Dredg is one of the bands whose lyrics I really look forward to - straight forward enough to develop a good idea of the lyric's original intent.

I think my favorite yet is an entire song, short as it might be. The intro track to the live album Live at The Fillmore titled "The Warbler".

    There's a self centered place
    That spins in the space
    Where greed and envy rule

    The stubbornness of opinions
    Make everyone a fool
    Everyone's a fool, everyone's a fool

It's where attitudes and egos shine
And war is so fine tuned
It's so fine tuned, it's so fine tuned

It's where trust is void and hate's employed
    This idea must change soon
It must change soon, it must change soon

I like it cause it's a the break from personalized lyrics that dredg does so well. They seem to be a little bit more outwardly focused on society (you can notice this from a more extensive use of "we" lyrics instead of "I" lyrics) and I think it's great when instead of just writing about himself a singer takes an outward approach and involves everyone in the larger scheme of things.

WOW, that is tough, too many to list :)
To just name a few - Cartoon Showroom, Matroshka, Canyon, Sanzen, Same Ol' Road...

I love SANZEN and all the concept behind of his lyrics.

I can't even concentrate on this,
    It's over thought, anticipated,
The pen ink is running dry,
It's been thrown to paper and wasted,

Creativity has been blocked and over tasted,
Maybe in time, I'll appreciate it

Hold on, hold on, we'll be with you soon

These papers are stuck in this book,
'till they're torn out and pasted,
    to inside of my memory,
where I can later look and see them in a new gallery,
where they can later be viewed and appreciated.

Hold on, hold on, we'll be with you soon,
    We'll be with you soon

Longing for what has been lost,
And longing for what hasn't been obtained,
It's a small cost, forgot the past, lost the future,
    Only now remains

Hold on, hold on, we'll be with you soon,
    We'll be with you soon

    Whoa is Me

The only things surrounding you now,
Are the circular memories that infect your conscience,
They are the make up of your worries, regret, and doubts.

    Collective portrayal of your person,
    Radiates confidence, shine with silence,
    And shadow the ones below.

    This drought is leaving me,
With cracked soil and brown leaves,
Floating on a dry lake bed,
With a dry mouth and a foggy head,
    Waiting for the snow

    But, when the water comes,
I will overflow, I will overflow.
When the water comes, I will overflow.

There's one more thing I forgot to tell you:
Worries and doubts will only help you,
In the long run, you'll shadow the ones below.

    This drought is leaving me,
With cracked soil and brown leaves,
Floating on a dry lake bed,
With a dry mouth and a foggy head,
    Waiting for the snow

    But, when the water comes,
    I will overflow, I will overflow .
When the water comes, I will overflow

Besides too many lyrics, first lyric that appears in my mind has always been "Not That Simple". This song gives me hope while making me miserable...

I'm not gonna write whole lyrics, but one of the parts which impresses me:

    "If all else fails,
    If all turns to dust,
'Set sail on a ship built from trust'
    If all else fails
    and all starts to rust,
'Set sail on a ship built for us...'
    ...
decided to run like a child
    decided to run to rescue
took too long to wake up..."

Gavin's lyrics are amazing but currently for me, off the new album I love Light Switch. It's something I can relate to so much... that necesity for the only thing that completes every part of you where you know you are lacking.

"I was put in a round room
And told to sit in the corner
While they wash my brain with a dirty rag

    I was given a hammer
And told to build a fortress
    With walls impossible to penetrate

You're the only thing I need
And you've become the only thing
That keeps me breathing, without you I'd be
In a dark place, no lightswitch
An open wound without a stitch
    Maybe now you will understand

    No matter how stable
    The foundation may seem
Everything is crashing down on me

    With papercuts on fingertips
    Blackened eyes, and broken lips
Forever wounded, it's hard to tell

You're the only thing I need
    Whether I fail or succeed
Within my blindness, you are all I see
The morning fog sun burns away
A predator's eye without its prey
    Maybe now you will understand

    I won't quit on you
No, I won't quit on you
    I won't run away,
    Ever, ever, ever, ever..."

    "A memory, a regret, a hope, a stimulant
    Recent it seems
We must push on, we must on
    Though we bleed
We must push on, we must push on
All you need is a modest house in a
    modest neighborhood
In a modest town where honest people dwell
Making the cleanest energy for the
    greenest plants to grow
Richest soil that drenched with the freshest rain"

    Same old road

I love this song. Strap it to my veins.

Look at what I have found
A seashell in a sea of shells
I'm good at planting my own seeds
    To sprout endless hell
    It's dark like Poe

A lot of Matisyahu's lyrics are inspirational, so, i wanted to pull something off of his new album. What i like about this song is that it's so positive, and uplifting. Although i do like to dig for meaning in lyrics, Matisyahu's stuff is pretty straight-forward and delivers the message quite directly with no beating around the bush. What i get from these lyrics is the fact that we need to break free from our mental barriers which we have been taught to live in and keep our thoughts constrained in those mental "cages." Live a positive life, and give love to those who you want to know that you care avout them.

    Matisyahu "I Will Be Light"

    Sit back
    And in these days
    Remember my ways
Oh will i get out of my cage?
    Yes i am a slave

    Searching for some freedom
    Searching for some freedom

    So intend to sing them
    Songs to spark, memories
What is a man with no history?
    Where am i?
    Who am i?
    What is this place?,
    We're just spinning in space

    Time will continue without you
    So in the end
    Its not about you
    But,
    What did you do?
Who do you love besides you
Beside you, many died in the name of vanity
Many die,in their mind’s eye, for justice
    We die for you
    And still do
    So i say to you
    This is nothing new

    I will be light

Its/In one tiny moment in time
For life to shine, to shine
    Burn away the darkness

You’ve got one tiny moment in time
For life to shine, to shine
    To burn away the darkness

That's cool, I never knew what that foreign language part was in Canyon. I guessed French, I was way off haha.
I definitely agree that the end of Canyon is one of the most powerful Dredg moments in lyrics and music. Other than that, I can't get enough of Matroshka and Cartoon Show Room.
