I must admit it didn't have the magic at first for me as when I listened to the other albums. But Dredg is definitely alive and kicking in this album. Every time I listen to it i really love it more and more.

maybe i was harsh, I like some of the songs, but
'quotes' frustrates me
'these drugs will expand us'
feel like this is where we divide -

Quotes and Saviour are not a favorite of mine either . I actually really like quotes now. But I am sure this album will grow on you. I mean your not going to agree with everything a band talks about. And with dredg I am sure its just this one song thats bugging you. Is comon dredg knowledge that they smoke weed. At least it is that Drew does (As is apparent when he lights up on stage). I am sure they arent talking about crack or Heroin.
I read in an interview that song is about a person who does drugs to try and expand their mind/view of the world while trying to not have drugs take over their life and become an addict. If I find the interview I will post it later -

Interesting. Quotes was one of my instant favourites! I love how it changes all the time, it's beautiful. And it is not pro-drugs if that is what bothers you. At least I don't feel like it is.
This album I liked a lot right from the start. I listened at least 3 times in a row to begin with.
But yeah, we are all different. You probably need to give it another try. Gathering Pebbles? Do you connect to this one? Or maybe Lightswitch? "Take A Look Around" in my opinion has one of the best of Gavin's vocals ever. Cartoon Showroom is very beautiful. Too many to list. I don't know. I was sure the album is diverse enough so everybody will find something to love. -

nope, after listening a few more times. I still do not like it. Cheap Dance music, with a beautiful voice. Its not 'awful", is just I find myself moving my head and snapping my fingers like I am at the Roxbury. It isn't bad..it just ins't what I consider progressive. Except for a few songs their lyrics are cheesy and is poison to anyone with a soul. 'take a look a around' IS beautiful. They DO have some bad ass tunes in parts, and I love their drummer. And I love some of the background noise. However, their overall message is a big let down. Not just because of what they talk about, but their perspective is not something I can accept. The song "cartoon showroom" gives me hope. But, the song "quotes" sounds like a knock off Blink 182 song with cheesy ass lyrics(not to mention the seemingly "pro-drug" line. I feel sorry for anyone who things this a good song. They are too popular in my opinion to be throwing out possible pro-drug messages(doesn't matter if it is a metaphor). Fine, be who you want, but I will not stand by them when their CD is being picked up at Target by people around my age. Drugs are obviously not meant for everyone. It is something I myself debate over. I just think it is something that people need to take critically, and in my experience.. most people don't or understand the 'actual' use or are currently in a position to make such a decision(like myself) It is like weed and Bob Marley. Smoking weed was apart of his religion...I'm not a huge Marley fan so I could be wrong, but I don't know a song that is literally 'pro-weed/drugs'. Still, today people take Bob as some mythological figure like che Guevara, without taking time to realize what these people stood for or thier values. Instead they just smoke weed like a fucking hobby to the point of stonerism because they have fallen into the illusion that it is good for the spirit. IS THIS THE AWKENING YOU HAVE IN MIND? Same concept applies to stronger drugs. And the way our media pushes drugs this song certainly does not help..especially since it is so ambigious and gives no attempt to promote even 'recreational use with religious intent) So, people only fall into depths of the human spirit, instead of reaching any apex of realization about anything(whether it is god, nature, etc.) Taken collectively, this is in my mind.. is a disaster.
Dredg will still be in my all time top 5 bands. It is possible their experiences has given them something I am unaware, then for now I am contempt with this possible ignorance. Upon any future possible realization that they were right, then will forever be sorry. -

Wait.... you have heard Blink 182 before, right?

RE: the pariah, the parrot, the delusion
shocking i know.. but it sounds like something came from that type of rock. Maybe it is too harsh.. after all, it is dredg. So maybe not Blink 182, but I lack a more accurate comparison. But that was all I could think about during the 'hook' of the song

Either we're listening to a different song or you don't know Blink 182...

wait wait wait, so this is your honest opinion? -- very interested to understand how you could dismiss this album by lyrical content alone, & compare it to pop/punk while being a fan of the band..... everything Gavin says in this record, to me, is an expression of true emotion -- the poetic style of writing could be meant to take literal, could be taken as symbolic, or simply listened to without any cognition of content in mind -- you can experiment with drugs or never try them ever, either way, the life will be perceived in Your own way..... I'm interested to find another person that doesn't like this album tho cuz personally i cant sit this b**tch down
